10+ Years Experience Combined in Events and Hospitality

Both Johnny and Shenoa have over 10 combined years’ experience in special events and hospitality, but our Ballroom Wedding and Events Venue is our biggest and most exciting milestones to date. Johnny and Shenoa are both natives of South Carolina and grew up loving their home state. In an interview right after opening the venue, Johnny stated. “There aren’t that many places to hold large events in Laurens.” With that statement in mind, it led them to open the Ballroom wedding and Events venue.

The venue located at 241 South Harper Street Ext., was originally the old National Guard armory built in the 1930s. The Cheeks had previously purchased 12 acres beside and behind the old armory building, and Shenoa said she’d always hoped for an opportunity to purchase the 1930s-era armory. Johnny would look at the old armory and say, ‘Wouldn’t that make a great event space?'” Shenoa said. “He could just see it in his head, and he was right.” After purchasing the acre lot, which is almost completely taken up by the vast armory, Johny began spending almost every evening after work doing all he could on his own – cleaning out decades’ worth of debris and making plans. The Grand opening of the Ballroom was in March of 2022. The venue has held many wonderful weddings and events since.

In addition to the Ballroom the Cheeks are the owners of “A Taste of Home” the successful restaurant located in Laurens, SC. They are also the proud parents of two adult children Kenyada and Jonathon and three amazing grandkids.

For us, The Ballroom have been a natural progression, and we are both very proud of how popular the venue has become to create a unique experience for all of the events held at the venue. We look forward to welcoming you to our venue and the opportunity celebrate with you on your big day.
